More Updates on Our New Adventure
Hello Friends,
Psalm 117. This little gem of a song is short and succinct yet captures the essence of our Lord and our work. I need reminding of this often.
“Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.”
Psalms 117:1-2 NIV
In this newsletter, we will update you on our progress as we continue to find partners to come alongside us on this adventure. I will also include a story that displays one portion of the work of the International Health Ministries Team.
Update
Thank you, new partners! Since June we are now nearing 5% of our funding for 2022. Ruby and I have enjoyed catching up on life with you and are grateful for your prayers and support! A special shout out to our friends Adam and Sara Marcionetti who hosted a zoom event for us in June to help kick things off. Please spread the word as we would love to meet with folks in-person to share what the Lord is doing through our SIM team.
MTI Language and Culture Acquisition School
I received funding to attend a month long residential program that SIM requires for personnel that will be working in different parts of the world. This is an intensive course that will assist me in building relational and cultural skills to interact with the various communities and languages I will partner with as I visit hospitals and personnel.
On the Homefront
Ruby will be teaching 2nd Grade at Dutton Elementary in Caledonia this Fall. She is busy preparing as she also visits partners with me. Please pray for her as she prepares for this new endeavor.
Ministry Update
The Health Ministries Team supports and strengthens:
Zimbabwe PPE distribution
The Health Ministries Team has been spearheading the Covid Immediate Response Project, which began in March 2020, and to date has performed 27 disbursements of funds to 20 different health ministries.
“Upon the initial outbreak of the Covid virus in early 2020, it became immediately apparent to the newly-formed SIM International Crisis Management Team that SIM’s health ministry staff and health ministries were at risk”, recalls Mark Faus, Health Ministries Team, Director of Operations. He further states that “The lessons learned from SIM Liberia’s response to the Ebola crisis in 2014 were applied to this project’s prioritization of objectives and responses, especially in the area of providing a spiritual response to the affected patients and spiritual support for the involved health workers.”
This project has enabled the team to meet the objectives of:
- PPE supplies procured through local supply chains for all health care workers and immediate response to Covid in the community and training to develop protective equipment from locally sourced materials when ready-made supplies were not available;
- Provide training support for the prevention and spread of the virus for medical teams, community and church mobilization personnel;
- Integration of SIM’s vision for ministry through health care; and
- Support of SIM health care workers and local staff in their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
After evaluation of submitted applications, disbursements were channeled to all of SIM’s major hospitals and major health ministry partners, along with many SIM-associated health ministries.
The photos above show examples of how the Covid Immediate Response Project has supported an SIM field response effort.
